Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: wsw Wind Stength: 13/20 Surf / Sea State: lumpy Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: sunny, cloudy, rain !!! Max Speed: 22.64 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 24.30 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
There is more to windsurfing than flat out blasting on a shortboard and
with the wind wsw - cross off at The Dip and maybe 15 kts several turned up
and decided to have a longboard sail :) I rigged the 8.5 as I am having my
9.4 repaired and set off on a beat towards thew peir.I was going to turn
around at the peir but my mate Mark Smalling caught me up and over took me
so we continued to the end of Landguard beach by the dock :) It was good on
the beat railed up and sailing in a lumpy sea and sunshine although it did
go light and I was underpowered but Mark could keep his board going with
his 9.5 !!! The reach back was not so good as I was well under now and only
picked when nearly back to the Dip.I then continued up the River Deben to
see if there was any wind at Ramsholt corner but the answer was not much
although I did get a few gusts.I then stated back to the Dip and on
reaching the Felixstowe Ferry sailing Club the tide was very strong pushing
me back.I stopped for a chocolate bar and waited for some rain to pass
before trying to out run the tide !!! It was breezy by now and I manged to
sail out of the river into a big sea but tacking by the red and white bouy
managed the land at the Dip on a tiny bit of beach with the tide well
high.So a good few hours on the water pitting myself against strong tide
and lumpy sea the only down point was that Mark was faster on the beat and
reach !!!!
